In today’s episode of Framework, Jamie talks with Oleg Tishkevich, the founder and CEO of Invent.us. Prior to founding Invent.us, Oleg founded Finance Logix, a next-generation financial planning software company that sold to Envestnet in 2015.

Oleg and his family came to the United States as refugees from Uzbekistan. As a kid, he always imagined himself living the American Dream. In an effort to make that dream a reality, he learned how to code and started a few businesses in college. Even though they eventually failed, those experiences taught him a lot about how to run a business, and set him up for success later in life.

With several successes under his belt, Oleg is now focused on helping financial service businesses develop efficient systems, and maximize their ability to solve problems for clients through impactful digital transformation.

Jamie and Oleg talk about his journey as a refugee, how his first businesses failed and the lessons he learned, as well as  how he turned failure into success.

“What if there’s a way to build a financial plan in 60 seconds? Can we do that? That was an idea that one of my colleagues agreed to explore. And I wanted to build a mobile app that would create a financial plan for a consumer literally in 60 seconds. ~ @inventwithus

Main Takeaways

  • Learn from your failures. Mistakes are opportunities that help you grow and learn.
  • You can bring your ideas to life. Believe in your ideas, work hard to make them happen, and they will.
  • The systems and processes you create and build for startups aren’t as easy as to replicate for larger businesses. There are systems you just can’t build overnight.
  • The fast pace of modernization is putting the consumer market in many verticals including consumer experience. This trend will grow even more as technology advances.
