Lauryn Williams is a four-time Olympian and the first American woman to win medals in both the summer and winter games. When she retired from professional sports, she founded Worth Winning to help young professionals take control of their finances.

Growing up in a family with eight children, Lauryn understood early that money was a tool to help you live the life you want. However, her own experience working with financial planners as a young professional athlete with a six-figure income left her frustrated.

“I didn’t feel any clearer about my finances,” she says.

With Worth Winning, Lauryn, who describes herself as a financial creative, is taking a novel approach to financial literacy. She offers group coaching retreats to teach the basics of financial planning.

“We all have to deal with money,” she says. “Being able to pass on the education piece of the financial planning puzzle is important to me, and I realized people do better when they aren’t alone.”

Jamie and Ana caught up with Lauryn in Nashville, where she was among the speakers at Carson Group’s Excell Represent Conference. In today’s episode, Lauryn shares her philosophy about objectives, obstacles and how to figure out what’s next once you’ve achieved your goals, her path to financial planning and the impact she wants to have.

Key Takeaways

  • To cultivate an achievement mindset, you have to ditch boxes and labels and approach each new goal with excellence.
  • Opportunities are a privilege. They give you the ability to take action.
  • Don’t be so focused on the achievement. Appreciate the obstacles you get to overcome.

“Freedom is all about choice. Being able to wake up in the morning and make decisions based on what is most important to you in that moment is what true freedom is to me.” – Lauryn Williams
