About Nick

As Managing Partner, Mergers & Acquisitions and Strategy, Nick Engelbart oversees mergers and acquisitions and strategic growth opportunities for Carson Group.

Nick’s career at Carson began in 2018, serving as Vice President of M&A. He swiftly moved into the role of Vice President of Corporate Strategy in early 2020. Six months later, he further advanced to the role of CFO, becoming one of the youngest CFOs in both Carson’s history and the industry. In 2023, Nick was once again asked to lend his expertise, this time focusing exclusively on the firm’s rapidly expanding M&A strategy.

Nick’s forward-thinking leadership has laid the foundation for Carson’s exponential growth. Since joining the firm, he has led the company through more than 50 opportunities spanning acquisitions, minority stake ownership and partner M&A. Under his guidance, the firm’s assets under management have surged to $33 billion, serving nearly 50,000 families across the U.S. Carson Group’s repeated recognition on the Inc. 5000 list of Fastest Growing Companies in seven out of the last eight years speaks volumes to Nick’s impact.

His pivotal role as a key integrator was demonstrated by his leadership in the development of Carson’s 200,000-sq-ft. headquarters in 2021. Nick’s attention to detail, financial stewardship and strategic foresight was integral to the project’s success.

In 2021, Nick led Carson Group into a historic partnership with Bain Capital, propelling the firm to an unprecedented valuation of $1 billion. This remarkable milestone marked the first-of-its-kind deal for an RIA firm, solidifying Nick’s status as an industry trailblazer. His accomplishments were further recognized in 2023, when he was selected by InvestmentNews as one of the top 40 financial services professionals under the age of 40.

Prior to joining Carson, Nick served as Director of Corporate Development and Planning for Intrado, where he executed over 15 acquisitions totaling more than $1 billion in aggregate purchase price. Nick also understands the challenges inherent to starting and growing a business with earlier experiences in venture capital and private equity. He enjoys working with Carson’s network of more than 480 entrepreneurial-minded financial advisors.

Nick holds a Bachelor of Science degree in finance and economics and a master’s in finance from Creighton University.

Outside of work, Nick is dedicated to his community. A committed supporter of the Muchemore Foundation Board, he channels his financial expertise by awarding scholarships to local colleges and Boys and Girls Club affiliates. Nick is committed to supporting youth activities and is a member of First Lutheran Church in Fremont, Nebraska, which reflects his values.

Family holds a central place in Nick’s life. The proud father of four young children, including one sweet girl and three active boys, he passionately embraces the role of youth sports coach, nurturing teamwork and mentorship alongside his kids’ growth.
