In today’s episode of Framework, Jamie talks with Dawn Wolfgram, CLF. Dawn is the President of Women in Insurance and Financial Services (WIFS). She is also the Regional Managing Director at Principal Financial Group.

Having a unique upbringing and seeing her parents without a definite retirement plan set her down the path of a career in financial services. This is where Dawn started to see how financial advisors could have a significant impact on families.

Jamie and Dawn talk about how she got into the industry, why she has a passion for helping women in the industry, and the importance of educating yourself in your chosen field.

“I think in any career, you have to become a student of that business. You have to make the commitment to learn the business and you have to educate yourself as an advisor. If you’re working with clients, they’re entrusting their careers and livelihoods to you and your ability to help them navigate through difficult times…you have to add value. And you can’t add true value if you don’t educate yourself. ~ @DawnWolfgram

Main Takeaways

  • When financial advisors get themselves into compliance trouble it’s most often because they’re not aware they’re doing something wrong. They often haven’t educated themselves about the rules and/or changes in regulations.
  • Surround yourself with people who don’t just believe in you but who will help you get to the next level. It’s important to find a mentor who will help you get to your goals.
  • We all start from somewhere. Don’t hesitate to give back to people who can learn from your experience.
  • In any career, you have to become a student of that business. Make the commitment to learn and educate yourself to ensure you’re adding value to your industry.
