Tyrone Ross Jr. is a natural competitor. His work ethic and drive helped him move up the ladder on Wall Street from a life that started in poverty. As a financial and startup consultant, Tyrone is trying to change the way we traditionally think about wealth and wealth management.

Growing up in an unbanked home, Tyrone wasn’t even aware of Wall Street or what the stock market was until he was in his mid-20s. But through a lot of hard work and perseverance, he was able to build a successful business while also rethinking the status quo.

In this episode of Framework, we talked with Tyrone about what it takes to survive (and thrive) in a wirehouse, what it’s like to be a failed Olympian and the truth behind diversity inclusion and what that means for our industry.

”Everyone suffers in some capacity. We have a responsibility to humanity.” – @TR401

Main Takeaways

  • Work ethic can be more valuable than a college degree, but you need to work hard, long, and with determination.
  • Hard work doesn’t always guarantee success. But doing your best does build character.
  • When seeking to hire minorities, put yourself in their shoes so you can understand the world they’re coming from. Be sensitive to their unique challenges.
  • If you think about legacy first and resume second, you can advocate for change and do things the right way.
